About Us And our little part of the world! |
||
Legacy Alpacas is situated on 115 acres of rolling pasture and meadows. There are plenty of oak and native pecan trees, a 25 acre conservation lake and 6 stock ponds. Along with the alpacas there are an assortment of horses, cattle and waterfowl on the property. Our two Great Pyrenees livestock dogs keep a close watch over their charges. Michelle and Craig have been breeding various livestock for more than 25 years. After alot of research and planning we purchased four bred females, a junior herdsire and one gelding. In August 2003 the decision was made to move from our small property in Tucson, Arizona to our present home in Oklahoma. We currently have a state of the art facility for the alpacas with a full vet area with ultrsound and animal restraint, a shearing station and breeding/birthing pens. We are a hands on operation which means that every aspect of animal husbandry is handled right here on the ranch. From breeding and birthing to shearing, veterinary care, hay production and fiber processing. Legacy Alpacas is commited to breeding high quality alpacas for superior fiber production, conformation and disposition. Whether you are looking for show, breeding or companion animals or are just interested in the "amazing alpaca" please feel free to stop by or contact us, we would love to hear from you! |
Michelle handles the day to day running of the ranch and caring for the animals, from feeding to breeding and everything in between! In her spare time, she operates her fiber business The Alpaca Legacy www.thealpacalegacy.com which offers an extensive line of luxury yarns made from alpaca blended with other natural fibers ie: merino, silk, bamboo, cashmere etc. Her passion for her animals and the future of the alpaca industry led her on a mission to promote alpaca as a sustainable mainstream fiber. Alpaca is three times warmer than wool without the itchiness and prickle factor that many people experience. It comes in sixteen beautiful natural colors, blends well with other fibers and has a wonderful drape and feel. Craig handles the management of the ranch and cattle when he is not working as a military aircraft repair facility supervisor. He's counting his days until retirement from his day job when he can REALLY start working! |
